Chief of Police Martin P. Barner

It is the goal of the men and women of the Hazel Park Police Department to provide our citizens, business owners, and visitors with exemplary service through professional integrity, unwavering honesty, and uncompromising sacrifice. Together we can and will make a difference in our neighborhoods and schools. It is by this cooperative effort that we can all make sustainable changes for the betterment of the community. It is my duty as Chief of Police to coordinate, direct, and lead this department while navigating through these very challenging economic times that we are all faced with.

I began my career with the Hazel Park Police Department in 1994. I have held nearly every position and rank in the department including:

  • Road Patrol Officer
  • Inaugural Member of the Crime Suppression Task Force
  • Road Patrol Sergeant
  • Detective Sergeant
  • Road Patrol Lieutenant
  • Detective Lieutenant
  • Administrative Lieutenant

I have also been a Firearms Range Master, Records Supervisor, Training Coordinator, Command Officer's Union Vice President, Field Training Supervisor, Personnel Equipment Supervisor, Hiring Administrator, Background Investigator, as well as Internal Investigations Coordinator. I feel this wide range of experience and duties will assist me and the department in serving our citizens and the community to the best of our ability.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Northwood University
