The Records Bureau is responsible for processing the tremendous amount of paperwork generated each day by the Hazel Park Police. They provide copies of reports, handgun purchase permits, bicycle licenses, and a multitude of other services to the public.

Firearm Registration & Permits
Handgun purchase permits are provided to Hazel Park residents only. Permits must be requested at the Hazel Park Police station. Valid Michigan Driver's License or other Valid Governmental photo I.D. bearing your current address as well as a Certified copy of your Birth Certificate is required.
After obtaining the permit, the firearm must be purchased within 10 calendar days. Effective January 7, 2009, after purchasing your pistol, you must mail or hand deliver both the MSP and Local Agency copies of the Permit to Purchase to the Hazel Park Police Department within 10 calendar days.
If you have a Michigan Concealed Pistol License and purchased a pistol using a Pistol Sales Record form, you no longer need to bring the pistol in for a safety inspection. You must however, mail or hand deliver both the MSP and Local Agency copies of the Pistol Sales Record to the Hazel Park Police Department within 10 calendar days of purchase.

Registering Inherited Firearms
Heirs to an estate must bring a Valid Michigan Driver's License or other Governmental photo ID, a Certified copy of your Birth Certificate and a Certified copy of the death certificate.
Individuals who are not heir to the estate will also need to obtain a permit to purchase the firearm and have the heir to the estate sign it and mail or hand deliver both the MSP and Local Agency copies of the Permit to Purchase to the Hazel Park Police Department within 10 calendar days.

Concealed Weapon Permits
Concealed Weapons Permit application kits are available to city residents only, during normal business hours. The formal application process, including fingerprinting, is handled by the Oakland County Sheriff.

Requesting Copies of Police Reports
Copies of reports can be requested Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

FOIA Requests
The Michigan Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) provides all persons, except those incarcerated in correctional facilities, with access to public records.
Requests to inspect or receive records must be submitted in writing, and must describe the requested records with enough detail that we can identify them.
You will receive a response to your request within 5 business days, either granting your request or explaining why all or part of your request cannot be granted.
